Good Stress Vs. Bad Stress; Know The Difference

We all have to pass through different situations in our daily life. You may have heard that the life is not a bed of roses. Well, that’s true because you come across the stressful situation in day to day life. But do you know there are the two types of stress:

  • Good stress
  • Bad stress

When we hear the term stress, it generates a negative connotation in our minds. Many people think that the stress is a deadly and dangerous thing. The truth is that the stress is a normal psychological response of humans.  But we need to understand the difference in different types of stress.

Introduction:

The exams are drawing near, and you are getting worried what will happen. The boss has given a new task with a short deadline, and now you are thinking how you will be able to accomplish the task. The stress is a response to the events that make you feel upset and threatened. You do not know the outcomes of a certain situation you feel stressed. The body thinks it is under stress and then goes into the fight or flight mode. It is the physiological response of the body.

  • Good Stress:

First of all, let’s debunk the fact that the stress is always bad. There is good stress as well and let’s take a look at what it is. Good stress is a type of mild stress people feel in their daily lives. The eustress’s mild bouts improve the cognitive brain function. The good stress is not harmful to the body. In fact, it keeps you motivated to perform the assigned task. For example, if you are feeling the mild stress of exams, then it propels you to work hard and get good grades.

Imagine there is no stress at all in your exams and you are just chilling outside with buddies. Will you study? Of course not, so good stress is healthy and normal.

  • Bad stress:

The bad stress or distress is ongoing stress that hinders your daily life activities. You become unable to concentrate on things and perform the tasks efficiently. It can harm your health, and you may get sick.  For example, your exams are coming, and you have not done the preparations yet. During the exams day, you are just taking too much stress that is preventing you from concentrating on your studies. As a result, you have a constant headache.

You may not know that the stress can particularly affect the body’s immune system. The stress hormones are fine in the short term but in the long term, they start weakening and adrenals.

Conclusion:

Having good stress motivates you, but the long-term stress can cause sickness. You may not work efficiently. Also, the stress is contagious. You are feeling stressed, and you are not excited about a new project the other partners may even start feeling stressed. The key to success is to cope with stress.
